SUMMARY:Citizen Science Book Launch: Spéirscéalta/Stories of the Air
DESCRIPTION:The University of Galway Library is delighted to invite you to
celebrate the publication of Spéirscéalta – a collection of stories
that explores the air.\n\n \n\nIn conjunction with the Open Research Forum
(8 April)\, the book will be launched by Oscar Diaz\, the European Citizen
Science Ambassador for Ireland\, along with project lead Dr. Liz Coleman
(Physics)\, artist duo Paula McCloskey and Sam Vardy from a place of their
own\, and Dr. Mairéad Hurley (Trinity College Dublin). In addition to the
presentations\, there will also be a reading of new fiction written for
Spéirscéalta\, and we will enjoy live traditional music and light
refreshments.\n\n \n\n\n\nBetween 2021 and 2023\, the Stories of the Air
project led walks\, conversations\, performances\, and creative workshops
across Galway and Connemara\, discussing the air and collecting and
generating stories in Irish and English. Spéirscéalta\, the bilingual
project book\, captures those stories and brings together scientific data
and cultural reflections and folklore to explore the atmosphere.\n\n
\n\n\n\nWe will also hear about The Air We Share\, Dr. Coleman's current
project\, which makes the invisible visible\, by engaging with the issue of
air quality through artistic interventions\, citizen science\, and
community action in Westside\, Galway. Artists Paula McCloskey and Sam
Vardy from a place of their own are involved with both projects\, and they
will share their experience. Dr. Mairéad Hurley is a science education and
public engagement expert\, and she is also a musician.\n\n \n\nThis event
is free and open to the public\, but registration is required. \n\n
\n\nCopies of the book will be available\, along with light refreshments.
The refreshments have been kindly sponsored by Galway Arts Centre.\n\n
\n\nIf you have any questions\, please email Dr. Jen Smith\, Open Research
 Librarian.\n\n \n\n \n\n
