Gen AI and Assignments: What Students Need to Know In-Person
The use of generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) by students in higher education is a hot topic. This workshop aims to demystify the technology, prompt dialogue between students and instructors, and promote and support academic integrity.
The learning outcomes of the workshop are:
- Explain what is meant by Gen AI and how it works.
- Understand that unauthorised and/or unacknowledged use of Gen AI in academic work will constitute academic misconduct.
- Consider some potential uses of Gen AI as a catalyst for library research and critically evaluate the output.
- Understand the limitations, cautions and caveats of using the technology.
- Contrast the benefits and costs of using Gen AI and make an informed decision regarding its use.
