Open Educational Resources: What You Need to Know In-Person
Open Scholarship Café - Open Educational Resources: What You Need to Know
In Person! 15 November, 3-4pm, Hardiman Building, G11
This Café will look at how to get started with Open Educational Resources. According to UNESCO, OER are "learning, teaching and research materials in any format and medium that reside in the public domain or are under copyright that have been released under an open license, that permit no-cost access, re-use, re-purpose, adaptation and redistribution by others." OER have been shown to increase and enrich student learning while breaking down barriers of affordability and accessibility.
We'll get to know some of the essentials for getting started with OER including:
- Locating and evaluating OER
- Using open licensing
- Reusing, revising and remixing OER
- A short introduction to Pressbooks, an open textbook creation software
The session will be led by University of Galway Academic Skills Librarian Kris Meen. Kris is a SPARC Open Education Leader, an active member of the SPARC European Network of Open Education Librarians and a project team member of the University of Galway OER pilot project.
We'll be joined by University of Galway OER champion Chris Noone from the School of Psychology. Chris is an active user of OER in his teaching and he'll tell us about how he goes about it and why.
The event is open to all but will be of particular interest to anyone in a teaching role or who has an interest in education and its role in open scholarship.
This will be an in-person event with coffee and biscuits to chat over! Please bring your own device (laptop) to get the most of the event!
Open Scholarship Cafés are organised by the Library of the University of Galway in partnership with the Open Scholarship Community Galway.
